Operation is good anywhere in the house, gets spotty in the garage and more remote parts of the yard. Quite pleased in general with features, answering machine operation, tone quality, etc. Old phone was quite a bit larger and heavier, had a 3" protruding blade antenna. Two-line capability is quite useful. Range is better than that of most other cordless phones I've had, but only about half the distance my previous (about 5-year-old) GigaRange phone had. This handset is considerably smaller and lighter, with an internal antenna--much easier to carry around in a pocket. All in all, a very good phone system with good but not exceptional range.
This is a good phone. The reception is good along with a host of other features. I do wish it had more ringtones.
I returned it and bought a panasonic DECT phone. I bought this since it's the only panasonic with 2 lines. but the background hiss on it just bothered me too much. (only 1 line though) and it's crystal clear. If you want no static or hiss in the background I recommend their new DECT phones.
To me, that's the most important feature. If you're familiar with the older model this one isn't all that different and if you liked the older one you'll probably be able to adjust to this one quickly.
I chose to buy the new version due to the expense of replacing hand sets for the older phone. I like the shape and weight of the new hand sets and the blinking light when there's a message.
I had an older version of this phone (KX-TG2740). The answering machine is easier to use than the older one.
The display is harder to read than the old one and the soft keys are more difficult to press. The base unit doesn't have a full display so if you dial a number from the base unit you can't see what you entered.
The sound quality is very good on all units and adjusts easily. Except for items listed, which are a minor annoyance, I'm satisfied with the phone system.
Works well. Great range. Messages clear and easy to retrieve. Visible message reminder, not audible.
